Working in Aqua-farming can be a risky and difficult business. This week’s AI startup, ReelData, supports aqua-farmers with all their ambitions.
⚾ The Elevator Pitch
The aquaculture industry is a whopping $285B market worldwide. Globally, it supplies more than 50 percent of all seafood produced for human consumption – and that number will only rise in the future.
As AI starts to be incorporated into the farming and food industry, Reeldata looks to join the next wave of innovation in land-based aquaculture. Reeldata allows aqua farmers to keep a better finger on the pulse of the appetite, biomass, stress, and health in their aquafarms.

🔍 Why we like it
🐟 Everyone’s gotta eat
Over 3 billion people worldwide rely on food from the ocean as significant protein. There is a strong global demand for seafood – improving the efficiency and quality of seafood produced can improve the livelihoods of millions. From a market standpoint, ReelData has a lot of space to run (er swim?), but from a societal standpoint, innovations in this space could improve the lives for many.
🌎 Sustainability is the future
We are facing an overfishing crisis. This is true across seas, oceans, almost every body of water. Aquaculture is the future of seafood farming, so it’s important to invest in this space while there is time. Land-based aquaculture eliminates problems related to contamination, parasites, and escapes, while optimizing transportation and farm control.
